Granite Quarry Crag at Barnton Bunker
Hidden on the outskirts of Edinburgh, our Cold-War bunker backs onto a rugged granite quarry now transformed into an open-air climbing wall. From beginner top-rope lines to techy leads, the routes offer solid rock and a setting like nowhere else in Scotland.
Purchase an annual permit, grab the gate code, and climb when it suits you throughout the weekend. Students, clubs and seasoned crushers are all welcome—just remember to respect the site’s history, keep noise low and leave no trace.
First time here? Chat with staff or an experienced member on-site; we’re happy to point out warm-ups, classics and the best evening sun traps.

Climbing is entirely at your own risk. Permit holders must not share the gate code. Personal accident insurance is mandatory.
