About Barnton Bunker
Barnton Bunker is a historic WW2 and Cold War nuclear bunker located in Edinburgh, Scotland. Hidden within the northern section of Corstorphine Hill, around 4 miles west of Edinburgh city centre, the bunker is undergoing a major volunteer-led restoration.
The site is being restored to its original 1950s ROTOR Sector Operations Centre layout, preserving an important part of Scotland’s wartime and Cold War history.
The restoration is led by The Barnton Bunker Preservation Society SCIO, with guided hard hat tours, events, filming opportunities and volunteering helping to support the preservation of the site.
Scottish Thistle Awards Finalist
Barnton Bunker is proud to be recognised as a finalist in the Scottish Thistle Awards.
We are a finalist for Best Community Tourism and Events Initiative, recognising the work of our volunteers, supporters and wider community in restoring the bunker, preserving its history and creating meaningful visitor experiences.
