Greyfriar's Bobby & William Wallace VS The HAGGIS

Something rather unusual is stirring at Barnton Bunker this Halloween.

A forgotten ritual known as "The Feast" has awakened something ancient beneath Edinburgh. Now Scotland's most unlikely heroes, Greyfriar's Bobby and William Wallace, find themselves facing a mysterious and rather hungry adversary: The HAGGIS.

As Scottish folklore, history and a little Halloween mischief collide, an unusual story begins to unfold. There may be darkness ahead, but with a supernatural Haggis at the heart of the tale, this was never going to be an entirely serious affair.

Edinburgh Halloween 2026 Haunted Bunker Maze, a volunteer-created Halloween haunted house experience inspired by Scottish folklore at Barnton Bunker

A Different Kind of Halloween Haunted House

If you're looking for an Edinburgh Halloween experience that's a little out of the ordinary, our Haunted Bunker Maze offers something different from a traditional haunted house.

Rather than relying on jump scares alone, this year's experience is built around an original, character-driven story inspired by Scottish mythology and folklore. As you make your way through the maze, you'll encounter live performers, handcrafted scenes and atmospheric settings that bring this peculiar world to life.

There are still frights to be had, particularly during our later performances, but the experience also embraces storytelling, imagination and moments of unexpected humour. After all, a tale involving William Wallace, Greyfriar's Bobby and a supernatural Haggis shouldn't take itself too seriously.

A little about the setting: This Halloween maze takes place at surface level within the former WWII RAF Fighter Command Operations complex. The underground bunker is not accessed during this event.

What Awaits You Inside the Maze?

We wouldn't want to give too much away before you arrive. But unlike a conventional Halloween haunted house, there's a deliberate story behind the strange encounters waiting for you.

A Story Worth Following

An original tale inspired by Scottish folklore, featuring unusual characters, mysterious encounters and the occasional touch of dark humour. The story is just as much a part of the experience as the scares.

Handcrafted Worlds

Explore atmospheric scenes created using handmade props, repurposed materials, creative lighting and sound. Each setting reflects the imagination and hard work of our volunteer team.

Live Characters & Scares

Meet live performers who bring the story's creatures and characters to life. Expect a mixture of theatrical encounters and atmospheric storytelling, with jump scares featuring in the later sessions.

Made With Imagination, Built By Volunteers

Behind the scenes, a passionate group of local and international volunteers have been busy imagining, building and bringing this unusual Halloween world to life.

From salvaged materials transformed into sets and props, to atmospheric lighting, sound and live performances, the production has been created with resourcefulness, creativity and a great deal of enthusiasm. It's very much a labour of love, with its own slightly strange sense of humour.

This volunteer-led charity fundraising event supports the Barnton Bunker Preservation Society SCIO and our plans for a new Visitor Centre, helping preserve and share an important part of Edinburgh's history.

Choose Your Halloween Experience

Whether you're visiting with younger family members or looking for something a little more unsettling, the experience changes as the evening unfolds.
