Fair Work First Policy
1. Purpose
The Barnton Bunker Preservation Society SCIO is committed to the principles of Fair Work First as defined by the Scottish Government. It ensures that our practices in relation to staff, trustees, and volunteers reflect fairness, inclusivity, and sustainability, and are aligned with the standards expected for publicly funded organisations.
2. Principles
The Barnton Bunker Preservation Society SCIO commits to embedding the following principles in our work:
2.1 Fair Pay
● Where staff are employed, they will be paid in line with the Real Living Wage or above.
● Volunteers will not replace paid staff but will contribute to complementary roles.
2.2 Effective Voice
● Staff and volunteers will be given the opportunity to share their views and influence decisions.
● Regular meetings and open communication with trustees will be maintained.
2.3 Opportunity
● Recruitment of staff and volunteers will be open, fair, and inclusive, in line with our Equal Opportunities Policy.
● Young people, students, and individuals from underrepresented groups will be actively encouraged to apply for opportunities with us.
2.4 Security
● Contracts for any staff will be fair, transparent, and secure.
● Volunteers will be given clear role descriptions and a supportive environment.
2.5 Fulfilment
● Training and development opportunities will be offered where possible to both staff and volunteers.
● We will encourage a healthy balance between work, volunteering, and personal life.
3. Implementation
The Board of Trustees is responsible for the implementation of this policy. They will ensure that Fair Work First principles are embedded into strategic planning, operations, and funding applications.
4. Review
This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure continued alignment with the Scottish Government’s Fair Work First framework and relevance to the organisation’s staffing and volunteer practices.
